Safety edges have to meet a large number of requirements in different areas of application. These can be divided into the following three classes.<\/p>\n

\nA hazard analysis and risk assessment defines the safety requirements for the safety edges. Approval by a certified body is also required.<\/p>\n
reliability
\nNon-functioning safety devices lead to machine downtimes, which have a significant impact on the work process. High availability of the system used is therefore urgently required. The safety edge must also be resistant to environmental influences such as moisture, dirt, vibration and aggressive media.<\/p>\n
cost efficiency
